Jillian Keats: Preservation / Reservation

A solo exhibition with works by Jillian Keats
On view through March 8

“Preservation / Reservation” is a collection of objects and photographs that asks the question, “What is it we hold on to, and why?” The materials used are domestic, typically discarded, sometimes considered junk (string, burlap, dried flowers, human hair, dust bunnies). Keats uses an enamel paint that removes all color and creates a hardened outer shell, preserving the objects and leaving only their form and texture discernible. The meticulous care that Keats takes in collecting and arranging her materials gives them a second life, while also making conversation on the human race’s desire to hoard both physically and emotionally.

Exhibition on view at 233 Washington Street
Index’s Ground Floor space.
