CRISPR is an exhibition comprised of installation works by Amanda Thackray and Diana Palermo. The artists collaborated on a systematic process of creating large-scale weavings. By constructing, deconstructing, and reconstructing their paper and fiber network, their collaborative process evinces themes of methodical repetition, structural editing, and materiality. This installation also lies in conversation with the disparate elements of their respective studio practice. The breakdown of each paper and fiber strip leads to the dematerialization of form, followed by its slow mending and rebinding. This blurs the line between paper and fiber processes, erasing intention of each original drawing and recoding the imagery. Accompanying the installation both artists are presenting a selection of works on paper that also address materiality with a focus on ordered space, process, and form.

Our bodies are protected by layers of permeable tissue that act as our own personal armor. While our skin protects us from external forces, we can never control what’s happening just beneath the surface. What manages to penetrate the skin forever alters our internal being and thus our physical experiences are often directly representative of our emotional ones.
