June 18, 7 &#8211; 10pm<\/p>\n<p>Index Art Center is pleased to present \u201cThe Particle and the Wave,\u201d a group exhibition featuring artists who create work using the properties of light to evoke wonder.The exhibition brings together multi-media installations, sculpture and wall works in which light is both medium and subject. Curated by Wavelength, a collaborative project by Gianluca Bianchino and Jeanne Brasile,their curatorial model brings attention to the relationship between art and science via immersive exhibitions. Featured artists include Stanley Casselman, Andrew Demirjian, Sunil Garg, Jain Kwak, Greg Lesh\u00e9, Ryan Roa, Christine Soccio \u2013 Romanell, Carol Salmanson, USCO &amp; Eric Valosin.<br \/>\n\u201cBeyond creating imagery, the works are unified thro<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">ugh their use of light to draw attention to events in space and time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stanley Casselman\u2019s \u201cDeep Field\u201d is an immersive electronic window into a subtly shifting field of colors and light that envelopes the viewer. Eric Valosin\u2019s \u201cHyalo\u201d series implicate viewers in projected tableaus that are activated by the audience. Christine Soccio-Romanell\u2019s art uses reflective materials in site-responsive works that refract color and light. These, and the other works in the show,situate the viewer in a series of immersive experiences as they move throughout the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Index Art Center was established in May 2009 by three of Redsaw Art\u2019s former founders; Lowell Craig, Seth Goodwin, and DC Smith. Their mission is to help strengthen and revitalize Newark\u2019s emerging art scene. They wish to create an environment where the local community and artists of all media can come together and take part in a unique dialogue, one which affirms Newark as a center for contemporary art.<\/p>\n<p>Index Art Center is located at 237 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey near the corner of Market Street.
