Post Earth / President of the Knife Club

‘Post-Earth’ / ‘President of the Knife Club’
Saturday, January 6, 2018
7 TO 11PM

Index Art Center is pleased to present two exhibitions on Saturday, January 6, 7 – 11 PM. ‘Post-Earth’ in Index’s Main space and ‘President of the Knife Club’ in Index’s Side Gallery.

Index Main Space:
‘Post-Earth’
Curated by Sophia Sobers, POST-EARTH focuses on artists working with concepts of nature, structure, and meaning in a new political climate.
The trends of proposed 2018 governmental budget cuts to such agencies as the National Parks Organization, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency poses the question of what value does nature and the environment now hold in the modern world, especially as the very scientific structures and data created to protect and monitor the land is now under question?
The artists in POST-EARTH are working in a range of disciplines from drawing, sculpture, mixed media, to site specific installations. Their work explores our existence in the world, the physical structures we create to work with the land and our infrastructure, and their understanding and observations of the natural world.
Exhibiting artists are Katrina Bello, Cybele Collins, Lauren Comito, Dominique Duroseau, Alexis Elton, Dena Haden, Duy Hoàng, Delanie Jenkins, and Steven Pestana

Index Side Gallery:
”President of the Knife Club’
Works by Asha Ganpat
A selection of carved objects, new and old. In addition to the carvings, Asha Ganpat presents a series of sharpened everyday objects and knife works. Ganpat’s work opens a discourse about our species’ inclinations to weaponize the world around us. Her process is a reassignment of that violent nature, and frees ourselves by imposing the blame onto these questionably external things. In this endeavor, Ganpat asserts herself as the President of The Knife Club, in the business of fulfilling the market’s cutting and slashing and stabbing needs.

Gallery hours are by appointment.
Admission is free and open to the public.

This event is sponsored by our neighbors 27 Mix and Kilkenny Alehouse.
